The Balearic Islands, off the eastern coast of Spain, offer some of the most spectacular cruising grounds in the west Mediterranean Sea. With crystal-clear waters, beautiful beaches, hidden coves, and world-class restaurants, the Balearics are a top destination for motor yacht charters, able to eat up the miles in style and speed. Whether you're looking for a luxurious escape or an adventure-packed holiday, a motor yacht charter in the Balearics is the perfect way to experience this beautiful archipelago

The divine Balearic archipelago is best divided into two groups: the eastern islands of Majorca, Minorca and tiny Cabrera, and the western islands of Ibiza and Formentera. The Balearics each boast a varied terrain and stunning bays of blue water and stretches of white sandy beach, at their best when explored from the water via a charter yacht.

Mallorca's busy resorts can easily be escaped by sailing to Cala Figuera or Porto Colom, while Ibiza Town's hedonistic nightlife can be put on pause by visiting in the shoulder seasons or by sailing your motor yacht charter to the north coast's Portinax or Sant Miguel.

Luxury Motor Yacht Charter Balearics

Nothing beats a motor yacht for a truly luxury yacht charter. Charter a motor yacht for your trip to The Balearics and effortlessly cruise along the bay-chiselled coastline of Menorca, exploring the coves at Cala en Turqueta, or drop anchor on the east of the island for Menorca’s protected Unesco Biosphere Reserve: the Parc Natural S'Albufera des Grau. Sail your motor yacht into decadent Ibiza for evening parties, or trace the weathered coast at Formentera for tranquil days surrounded by nature and evenings elevated by starlit dinners aboard your luxury yacht.

Charter a bareboat Motor Yacht charter to explore the western Mediterranean with unrestrained freedom. Choose a boat like a Swift Trawler 47 and take along a jet ski and a tender for coastal exploration, and spend your days in the elegant cabin space with enough room for eight passengers spread across three cabins and a converted saloon.

Select a luxury motor yacht such as M/Y Pandion Pearl and take along a skipper for a Balearics sailing holiday without the agitation of captaining your vessel. Your local skipper will lead your sailing days into hard-to-reach bays, expertly selecting appropriate anchorages, and sail you from busy towns to overnight moorings as you take advantage of your yacht's onboard amenities. Take a chef for a hands-off sailing holiday, marrying the convenience and relaxation of a 5-star hotel experience to the autonomy and elegance of a sailing trip.

When to sail in the Balearics

The Balearic Islands' sailing season is between April and October, where long hot days and long periods of dry weather make the local sailing some of the Mediterranean's most popular.

The high season hits in July and August with a potent cocktail of Mediterranean heat, dry days and seasonal openings all but guaranteeing crowded resorts and busy streets.

You can find deliciously warm waters across the islands, with fewer crowds on idyllic Menorca making it an ideal escape for year-round watersports. Spring travellers should take advantage of the placid, hiking-friendly weather that encourages the wildflowers to bloom across Ibiza and Formentera.

Where to go

Mallorca

Mallorca, the largest Balearic Island, has a sublime topography of limestone mountains punctuated by Roman and Moorish ruins that give way to stunning coves and dreamy beaches licked by the exquisite beauty of the Mediterranean.

Its capital, Palma de Mallorca, makes an ideal starting point for a luxury motor yacht trip around the Balearics. Weigh anchor and sail the sultry blue fringes of the beach at Cala d'Or or leafy Cala Figuera, both excellent spots for walks to the stunning Mondragó Natural Park.

Sail to Sa Rapita for surfing and kayaking off the nearby Es Trenc beach, or pull close to shore for a mooring at Puerto Soller, a beautiful lagoon of a bay weathered into the northern coast with a postcard-pretty town backed by mountains.

Sail south of Mallorca to the lush little island of Cabrera to explore an indented coastline of rural bays and elysian beaches with exceptionally clear waters. Disembark and head inland for walks scented by juniper and wildflowers or sail your motor yacht charter to Sa Cova Blava to witness the magical light effect that bends through the cave and casts it in a kaleidoscope of deep neon blues.

Ibiza

While Ibiza's reputation would have first-timers believe the island to be non-stop parties, there's so much more to it than clubs and cocktails. Its bohemian spirit is alive and well at pretty beaches like Benirrás and sandy Cala d’Hort, as well as the hippy market at Saint Eulalia, while out-of-the-way beaches like Cala Salada remain difficult to access by anything other than a boat, so their lengths of sandy beach are quiet for much of the season.

Pick up your motor yacht in San Antonio, and make smooth progress around the White Isle and over to the other Balearics islands.

Trace the outlines of Ibiza's past at the weathered Ibiza Castle, the 16th-century walls and the delightful cobblestone streets that lead along a slideshow of convivial cafes, galleries and restaurants. Sail south to Formentera for languid days on a champagne-coloured beach with a fraction of the visitors than in Ibiza, and seek out an anchorage in Cala Saona for elysian blue waters bordered by a cliffy coastline and protected from most winds, barring the Libeccio.
