The Mediterranean's largest island and home to some truly spectacular scenery, a Sicily yacht charter is all about the nearby dramatic Aeolian island group, with their beautiful black sand beaches. The largest island in the volcanic archipelago is Stromboli, an incredible, still-active volcano that occasionally spews lava and smoke into the night's sky. The island sailing here is vastly different to anything you'll experience in the Tyrrhenian Sea, mainland Italy or even the whole west Mediterranean

Beautiful beaches, sumptuous food, and a slice of southern Italy - Sicily is the ideal place to charter a sailing yacht, catamaran or motor yacht

For the best close-up volcano-viewing, head for the island of Vulcano – where a leisurely two-hour walk from the port will take you to the top of the volcanic cove. Follow this with a dip in the famous mud baths and lunch at a nearby trattoria for the ultimate sailing holiday experience.

For a bareboat holiday that offers spectacular scenery, a more challenging sailing experience and the taste of untouched Sicily, the Aeolian archipelago is the ideal choice.

Strike out alone on a bareboat charter, hire a skipper to handle the boat or relax on a crewed luxury yacht charter under the watchful gaze of Mt Etna

Sicily Yacht Charter Guide

Aeolian Islands

The Aeolian Islands, sometimes called the Lipari islands after the largest island in the chain, is one of Italy’s most beautiful sailing destinations, full of mountainous coastline, beautiful beaches with black sand and incredible volcanic island groups. Begin your trip in Portorosa and head towards the extraordinary Aeolian Islands.

The volcanic archipelago is named after the Aeolus, the Greek god of wind, who has taken kindly to the region, with moderate NW breezes the summer norm.

This incredible sailing area is almost otherworldly, and very different from your usual yacht charter in the Mediterranean sea, with Mount Etna gently smoking in the background.

Egadi Islands

Alternativelly, go past the Capo DOrlando and start your charter from Trapani. Passing by dramatic rock stacks, cliffs, caves and beaches, head for the Aegadian Islands. Also known as the Egadi islands, this archipelago is part of the largest Marine Nature Reserve in Europe. These lesser-known islands boast a stunning array of rich marine life, white sandy beaches, beautiful bays, secret caves, shipwrecks and calm, clear waters – ideal for diving and snorkelling
