Sibenik Yacht Charter
A medieval town of labyrinthine cobbled streets framed by stone houses, pretty churches, and a mishmash of orange roofs and verdant green treetops make the alluring heart of Šibenik a superb place to start a Croatia yacht charter.
Approach the city by yacht charter, and you'll note the town's Venetian old town, where tall townhouses and conical church domes climb a hill culminating in the vast white St Michael’s Fortress, visible for miles around.
Beneath, the water laps peacefully at the promenade, kissing the hull of a few yachts and fishing boats moored directly beneath the old town, and in either direction, there is almost nothing else but the occasional island and leagues of stunning Croatian Adriatic sea to explore. Šibenik is as stunning as Hvar and Dubrovnik, but it has a fraction of the crowds, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing sailing holiday in Croatia.
Sibenik's primary base, Marina Mandalina, boasts a great selection of sailing boat, catamaran and motor yacht options, perfect for exploring the Krka River, Dalmatian coast and wider Adriatic Sea on a crewed, bareboat, or skippered yacht charter.

Sibenik Highlights
Much of Šibenik's charm is found in its laidback streets, with sparsely populated cobbles winding up a verdant hill past tavernas and cafes, through quiet neighbourhoods and past secret viewpoints. Sights like the gothic renaissance St James cathedral, the St John's, Michaels, and Barone Fortresses, and the beautiful Roberto de Visiani Park make Šibenik a delight to explore on foot, but a yacht charter in Šibenik takes these stunning sights and elevates them, with evocative moorings laden with views of the amber-lit old town, as well as romantic journeys along Croatia's coastline.
Take a tour of the unique Kornati Islands to explore a mostly uninhabited archipelago, some stretched out in long slithers of forest-topped grandeur and others mere dots in the sea, fringed by sumptuous white sands and an otherworldly serenity.
Dugi Otok is a stunning exception, sliced in two by Telašćica Bay and concealing several small islands and islets, as well as Mir Lake: a stunningly clear inky pool of water, fed by underground channels from the sea and surrounded by thickets of lush pine forest.
Sail north to the beguiling coastal city of Zadar to find a city bequeathed with fragments of the Venetian, Roman and Austrian empires. Or venture south to Split and spend a day exploring the charms of Diocletian's Palace before visiting the beaches of Brač and the glitzy Hvar marina, whose Adriatic views are punctuated by the opulent curvatures of the Pakleni Islands.
Sailing conditions in Sibenik
Croatia’s yacht charter season is characterised by balmy 35°C days and pleasant sailing conditions with a high degree of predictability. Islands just offshore guard Šibenik and Mandalina marina against any harsh winds (Šibenik is one of the safest natural harbours in Croatia), making the Šibenik peninsula ideal for a bareboat yacht charter. But sailors intending to sail into the open sea should be wary of the Jugo winds that bring occasional bouts of storms and burdensome rains in the shoulder seasons.
Early Season
The early sailing season has pleasant warmth and desirable sailing conditions from May onwards when the temperatures start to average in the early 20s. Winds can be a little cooler in the evenings at this time and there’s some risk of the Jugo winds (though there’s usually an adequate warning, allowing for last-minute itinerary adjustments), but otherwise, the conditions are likeable to early summer, but with far fewer crowds to worry about.
Peak Season
Šibenik’s high season is in August and while the area gets busy with sailors at this time, it’s much less popular than Dubrovnik, Hvar or Split, making it a good alternative for summer sailing. Temperatures rise to the mid-30s by the end of August, attracting travellers for beach holidays and filling up the beaches from Pula to Dubrovnik.
Late Season
By September Šibenik’s comparatively modest crowds are trickling back down to pre-peak season levels, and the weather remains hot and predictable well into October but the risk of rain and adverse weather becomes more unpredictable.

Where to sail from Sibenik
Begin your yacht charter from either D Marin Mandalina (home to most charter company yachts) or one of the ACI bases near Šibenik (ACI Marina Skradin, ACI Marina Vodice) and weave around the dense Sibenik archipelago en route to the nearby island group, the famous Kornati islands. The Kornati islands national park consists of 150 islands, some strung together like jade set into sapphire and others long stretches of land with striking corrugated coasts packed with natural beauty.
Most of the Kornati island chain are uninhabited, while others are picturesque homes to small fishing villages and lively marinas, ideal for days embedded in Croatian island life. Sail northwest, passing in and out between the islands, making swim stops in covered bays and eating lunch with views of long whisps of salty white sand and you'll eventually reach the cosmopolitan city of Zadar, a sublime cocktail of ancient cultures shaken up with an undeniably modern personality.
Take your motor boat or sailing yacht to car-free Kaprije for an unspoiled slice of Croatian island life, with an island easy to explore by foot. There are 100 inhabitants, mostly found around its pretty little old town, which has several fabulous restaurants serving local seafood with glasses of crisp posip. Head along the coastline and through a network of waterways to Skradin to visit the sublimely beautiful Krka National Park, a nature reserve of toppling waterfalls and lushly forested mountains.
Embark on a Šibenik yacht charter to explore the endless charms of the Croatian coast in your own time, sailing along uninhabited island beaches en route to busy marinas for a night sampling sumptuous local delicacies in a spirited Dalmatian restaurant.
