About NORTHERN LIGHT

Best for: friends and small groups chasing the Pacific Northwest, with couples and multi-generational families a close second.

NORTHERN LIGHT is a 74-foot Hatteras motor yacht based in Seattle, and her standout feature is straightforward access to the San Juan Islands: a cruising ground of forested archipelagos, wildlife-rich channels, and sheltered anchorages that rewards a boat with range and a full crew to handle the details. Built in 1987 and run by a three-person professional crew including Captain Wes Heinmiller, she carries up to six guests across three well-appointed staterooms.

The toy list is built for active itineraries: an 18-foot Novurania tender with 115 hp, a 13-foot Boston Whaler, four kayaks, and two paddleboards mean guests can explore coves and shorelines independently. A cockpit soft-tub Jacuzzi brings it back down to comfortable when the day is done. Three cabins for six guests means nobody is sharing unless they choose to, which suits families and close friend groups equally well.

Guest reviews

"Dear Wes & Crew, Thanks so much for treating up to five wonderful days cruising around the San Juans. Your careful attention to every. Detail for the sake of our comfort, safety, and enjoyment did not go unnoticed. The means were delicious, by the way; the cabins were very comfy; and the overall hospitality unmatched. We’ll be back, if you’ll have us!" – Charter Guest, San Juan Islands (2025)

"I'm giving Wes, the boat and your company 10's across the board. We had a great time. Wes was very professional. The boat was very well kept for a yacht of its age. Your service was also outstanding. Thank you for making our experience such a good one."

Good to know

We want to make sure you are well prepared and informed for your trip. Here are a few things you might want to know before you set off.
An APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance) is an amount paid to the yacht before your charter. It's a fund to cover expenses such as food & drink eaten on board, fuel and mooring fees. At the end of your charter, you’ll receive a detailed document showing how the APA was spent, and any remaining balance will be refunded to you. if in doubt about what is included, ask your HELM broker.
The Captain will let you know if you're about to overspend and discuss your next steps, which wil generally be a bank transfer to top up the funds.
We recommend (10-15% for the Med) (15-20% for the Caribbean/Bahamas) of your charter fee, which will be split evenly among the crew (it's a nice touch to bring a blank envelope or a thank you card in advance).
We'll share your Captain's details with you a few weeks before your charter. We can set up a group chat with your group and the captain to discuss plans before you go.
