Squeezed into just 200 hectares, this principality might be the world’s second-smallest country, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in attitude. A magnet for high-rollers and hedonists since the early 20th century, Monaco is a glamorous and glorious place to start and end your yacht charter. Simply stunning.

On day two, we recommend a relaxed lunch at Anjuna Beach club. Then, visit Villefranche-Sur-Mer, heaped above an idyllic harbour, this picturesque village with imposing citadel overlooks the Cap Ferrat peninsula and, thanks to its deep harbour, is a prime port of call for cruise ships. The 14th-century old town, with its tiny, evocatively named streets broken by twisting staircases and glimpses of the sea, is a delight to amble through.

Set off in the morning, cruise to Nice, and have a walk in the old town. With its mix of real-city grit, old-world opulence, year-round sunshine, vibrant street life and stunning seaside location, no place in France compares with Nice. Then, enjoy your afternoon in Antibes. With its boat-bedecked port, 16th-century ramparts and narrow cobblestone streets festooned with flowers, it's little wonder that lovely Antibes has stolen the hearts of so many artists and writers. Famous visitors include Graham Greene, Max Ernst and Picasso, who featured the town in many paintings and now has a museum dedicated to him here.

Once a small fishing village, Cannes is now a glamorous and expensive seaside town, considered to be one of the social hubs of Europe. Its moment to shine arrives in May as the venue for the Cannes Film Festival, entertaining the rich and famous from around the world. Stroll the Promenade de la Croisette for a few new treasures, then head to Le Marais for a casual bistro with much Rue de Faubourg-chic. The “Iles de Lérins” are two large islands that lie just off the coast of Cannes. Ile Sainte-Marguerite is the larger island and is covered by a pine and eucalyptus forest. There are lovely cafes and restaurants and history enthusiasts can visit the cell where ‘The Man in the Iron Mask’ was imprisoned. Ile Saint-Honorat, just south, has a Cistercian monastery that still produces a local wine. The passage between the islands is a popular anchor point for many yachts and is a great place to stay for the night if you’ve been visiting Cannes or Antibes.

Spend half of your day in St Tropez, in the beach Club Les Palmiers. Take your lunch there. Then, cruise to Cavalaire-Sur-Mer and spend the rest of your day there. The long, sandy beach is the main attraction in Cavalaire-Sur-Mer, and there are also small beaches and coves on the coast just outside the main resort a little way to the south-west.

Head down the coast to glamorous St Tropez and anchor in the sprawling Port de Saint Tropez. Once ashore, endless opportunities await, work up an appetite with some shopping along the Place de la Garonne and then head to the beloved Club 55, where the cuisine is rivalled only by the sea view and sophisticated clientele.
